International conference on Opportunities and Challenges in the era of Artificial Intelligence organized at Galgotias University

A two-day international conference entitled “(Re)constructing the ‘self’ in the age of AI: Perspectives, Contestations and Challenges” was inaugurated on 15th December through an online platform. This conference was organized by the GU School of Liberal Education in collaboration with the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. The conference addressed how digital life is augmenting human capacities as well as disrupting age-old human activities. This conference focused on how artificial intelligence offers unimagined opportunities and unprecedented threats.

Prof (Dr.) Anuradha Parasar, Dean of the School of Liberal Education, delivered the welcome address and appreciated the effort of the organizing team for the timely and engaging conference theme. She pointed out the significance of AI in our day-to-day life.

Prof (Dr.) Renu Luthra delivered an insightful speech on how artificial intelligence intersected with our day-to-day experiences and how it is going to augment our daily life experiences. She also expressed her apprehensions about the data collected and utilized by AI machines.

 Prof (Dr.) Mallikarjun Babu, the Vice Chancellor of Galgotias University expressed his views that AI has the potential to help save lives, the medical field, for example, is exploring the option of using artificial intelligence for improved diagnoses of diseases and ailments. He expressed his apprehension and curiosity about whether the regime of artificial intelligence will really prove to be a boon for humankind. He congratulated the organizers for organizing the conference on such an engaging theme.

Prof. Srinath Srinivasa, Professor and Dean (R&D), IIIT Bangalore graced the conference as the chief guest. He gave a detailed lecture on genealogy, capabilities, and challenges of artificial intelligence in the construction of the ‘self’ vis a vis ‘other’. Dr. Sheetal Sharma, faculty of Jawaharlal Nehru University and Coordinator for the Jean Monnet Module, delivered the speech on the theme of artificial intelligence and how it reinvents the idea of ‘self’. Many researchers have discussed their research papers in the conference.

University’s Chief Executive Officer Mr. Dhruv Galgotia and Director Operations Advocate Aradhana Galgotia congratulated for successfully conducting this international conference.
